Weekend Immersion: Rope

About this Aerial Rope Immersion

Are you ready to rope, but a bit nervous about how the pandemic has impacted your training routine? Come “choose your own adventure” in a rope-tastic weekend geared to help you get your rope mojo back and find fun in the air! Instructors Molly Graves and Rachel Rees will challenge you, wherever you are, through exploration of momentum and beat pathways, creative choreographic sequences and transitions, c-shaping technique, and progressions for learning or returning to challenging skills like roll-ups and dynamic release moves. Take advantage of NECCA’s beautiful trapezium—including our foam pit and pit mat—to rediscover your vertical aerial self at your own pace.

Saturday and Sunday 9:00 am – 3:30 pm

For advanced-beginner to advanced-intermediate level students. Students should have returned to a regular vertical (rope or fabric) practice at least one month before the start of the workshop, have strong shoulder engagement, clean hip keys in the air (windmill entrance), at least two pull-ups, and endurance to climb and invert repeatedly in the air.


Molly Graves is a Tennessee native who boasts a life-long interest in all things acrobatic. Molly has performed as a guest artist with Acrobatic Conundrum; at Circus Now’s 2015 International Contemporary Circus Exposure in NY; and at the International Aerial Acrobatic Arts Festival in Denver, CO, where she was awarded “Best Technical Performance” for her aerial rope act in 2014. Additionally, she counts herself lucky to be a member of the inspiring & empowering company Girls on Trapeze.

Rachel Rees is a dynamic circus and theatre artist from New Orleans, LA. She graduated from NECCA’s ProTrack program in 2019, where she continues to train and coach vertical rope. In her work, Rachel aims to combine high-level technique with high art to create imaginative pieces of storytelling. She earned a BFA in Theatre Arts from Boston University and has trained in physical theatre intensively with Double Edge Theatre as well as internationally at the Accademia dell’Arte (IT). Rachel is passionate, driven, and a visionary—always on the lookout for her next collaboration at home in the States and abroad.
